South Miami Police are investigating after a man showed up at a police station and said he shot and killed his wife Thursday.
Police said they discovered Jennifer Alonzo, 26, inside a townhouse in the 5500 block of Southwest 67th Avenue after Derek Medina, 31, showed up at the station and said he killed his wife during an argument.
A 10-year-old child was also found unharmed at the scene. Miami-Dade Police said the child was the victim's daughter.
Medina posted a photo of his wife after the shooting on his Facebook page. The graphic photo, captioned "RIP Jennifer Alonso," shows a woman bent over backwards with her knees bent, her face and arm covered in blood.
He also posted an alleged confession shortly after posting the photo that read:
Im going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys takecare Facebook people you will see me in the news" my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope u understand me
Neighbors said Medina was a self-proclaimed neighborhood watchman.
South Miami Police said the case was being handed over to Miami-Dade Police.
No other information was immediately known.
