A Chicago Transit Authority train derailment in the Loop on Tuesday damaged cars and sent pedestrians scrambling for cover.

According to the CTA, a set of wheels came off the track shortly after 6 p.m. at South LaSalle and West Van Buren streets, causing steel ties to fall to the street below.

The metal ties damaged the rear window of at least one vehicle on Van Buren, but the driver wasn't injured.

"It was just loud. Kind of a bang, but it continued and it definitely shook the building," pedestrian Pamela Tolby said.

The Brown, Green, Orange, Purple and Pink lines trains were temporarily halted in the Loop while emergency crews cleared the scene.

CTA official Brian Steele said there was no structural damage to the track itself. All service in the Loop was fully restored by 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"All lines will run normally during AM rush hour," the agency said via Twitter.
