Navy officials have identified the suspect in a stabbing that has a Virginia Naval base on lock down.
The stabbing was reported around 9 a.m. at the Navy exchange near Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, WAVY.com reported.
The base has been placed on "Code White" as police and a SWAT team search for the suspect. Code White indicates an active shooter or armed suspect is in the area.
The armed suspect's name has not been released.
An alert was sent to staff describing the suspect as a white man with blonde hair. He was last seen wearing tan pants, a white t-shirt and blue sneakers.
The victim, a service member, was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, according to WAVY.
Personnel on the base are being told to shelter in place.
