A Texas delegation of politicians is hoping to lure the next hot deal out of California.
On Monday Texas Rep. Jason Villalba (R) will take a group to Huy Fong Foods in the Los Angeles suburb of Irwindale; Huy Fong is the maker of the popular condiment Sriracha Chili Sauce
The plant’s future is in jeopardy in its current location after the city council voted it a “public nuisance” following complaints of the smell and, specifically, a “burning odor.”
Owner David Tran has said publically he will not be pushed out of business, saying to reporters from KNBC, “Why you hate me? Why you want to shut me down?”
The plant employs up to 1,000 people, according to Villalba – jobs he hopes to bring to North Texas.
The delegation also involves a contingent from South Texas, a location politicians said would be an ideal climate to grow the sauce’s spicy peppers.
On Monday, the group will meet with Tran, tour the facility – and reportedly, join him for lunch.
The specifics of a deal have not been discussed, including a potential site in North Texas for the factory to relocate.
Texas is not the only state that has expressed interest in wooing Huy Fong Foods.
