A Grammy Award-winning art director was killed when a Ford GT driven by the brother of actress Salma Hayek Monday morning was involved in a crash with a pickup Sunday evening on Sunset Boulevard.
The crash occurred in the Beverly Crest area on Los Angeles' Westside at about 5 p.m. The driver of the 2006 Ford GT was identified as 40-year-old Sami Hayek, according to police.
The passenger in the mid-engine, two-seat Ford sports car was killed in a head-on collision with a Toyota Tacoma pickup, police said. The victim, 43-year-old Ian Cuttler Sala, a Grammy Award-winning art director, died at the scene.
Hayek, a Los Angeles-based designer of custom chairs, suffered broken ribs and cuts to the head, police said. He lost control of the vehicle traveling east on Sunset Boulevard a
nd crossed into the westbound lanes, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The 20-year-old pickup driver suffered a broken foot, according to police.
The GT is Ford's road-going version of its legendary GT40 endurance racing cars. The high-performance supercharged GT was produced from 2004 to 2006 and carried a price tag around $140,000.
